Friedrich Wilhelm Ludolf Gerhard Augustin von Steuben, also known as Baron Steuben (born 17 September 1730 in Magdeburg, died 28 November 1794 in Utica, New York) Steuben was a Prussian officer in the Frederician army. In 1777 Steuben met the American ambassador in Paris, Benjamin Franklin.
