They were tasked with reconnoitring the terrain, scouting routes, observing the enemy, taking vanguards by surprise and also waging small-scale warfare. However, hunters on horseback also fought in battle and proved themselves in all theatres of war. Also to be used as Bergische-Chevaulegers (elite company). E.g. Spain and Russia campaign.
