Size 1.5 cm. The plant genus of the worm ferns (Dryopteris) belongs to the family of the worm ferns (Dryopteridaceae). The at least 150 species are distributed mainly in the northern hemisphere. In folklore, the worm fern was also called tapeworm root, flöhwurz, Hirschzehen, Irrwurz or Johanniskraut. Most of the names go back to historical use or popular belief.
