Shooting an arrow, c. 1400, 7.5 cm. In the battles of the late Middle Ages (c. 1250 to 1500), the longbow proved itself many times over. In contrast to the composite bow, the longbow was less sensitive to the weather. The bows were made by bogners, the qualified bow makers, but in contrast to armour and blank weapons, they were much cheaper. The metal tips of the arrows could be made by any blacksmith. Accessories for the bow shot were a forearm guard for the bow hand and a hand leather also tabs for the string hand.
