Quite often throughout history, women have been in the position of defending the village or town whilst many of the fighting men are away....fighting. Here we have four ladies beating back invaders with any objects they have to hand, and even the little girl is joining in by lobbing some turnips - I feel she will one day grow up to be a mighty shieldmaiden!
