In the course of the army reforms following the demise of the old Prussian army in 1806, new uniforms were also introduced. The basic colour remained blue. In keeping with fashion, the new skirts were very short, the trousers were pulled up far, some now rather grey, very high stand-up collars, and the skirt and trousers were cut very tightly. The Tschako was introduced as headgear in a high and wide form. Shoulder boards or epaulettes to distinguish ranks were introduced from 1808.
