Volume 121 of the series "Guerreros y Batallas" describes one of the important battles in the Spanish War of Independence against the French occupation during the Napoleonic Wars. At Medina del Rioseco, northwest of Valladolid, 14000 Frenchmen under General Bessières defeated a Spanish army of no less than 30000 men under General Cuesta on 14 June 1808. Some quickly executed manoeuvres by the French cavalry threw the inexperienced Spanish soldiers into confusion, which the French infantry exploited to achieve a complete victory over the Spaniards. This volume shows the political and military background of the Battle of Medina del Rioseco, the composition of the French and Spanish armies, the course of the battle and its consequences.
