80 years of numerous armed conflicts between 1566 and 1648 saw the Netherlands fighting for its independence from the Spanish crown. This volume describes one of these conflicts, namely the siege of Haarlem from 1572 to 1573. The political and military background of the siege, the Dutch and Spanish contingents involved in it and, of course, the course and effects of the struggle, which lasted about a year, are presented together with numerous illustrations.
