This booklet describes an episode from the early phase of the Spanish Civil War that became the founding myth of the Francoist state: The defence of the rather insignificant fortress of Alcázar in Toledo in 1936 by about 100 officers and soldiers, 800 men of the Guardia Civil, a handful of Falange members and cadets of the Infantry Academy against a Republican superiority. The reader learns not only about the political and strategic background of the siege and, of course, the course of the battle, but also about the troops deployed there by both warring parties, with their organisation, equipment and uniforms.
