The book tells the story of one of the most important German seaplane bases on the Eastern Front during the First World War. It was crucial to German control of the Baltic Sea through reconnaissance, bombing and torpedo missions and was an important base for the Battle of Ösel. The book contains a list of assigned pilots and lists the seaplanes and land planes assigned to Windau by type and serial number. It is a companion volume to the author's book on the Zeebrugge naval air base opposite the Thames Estuary.
