Manfred von Richthofen's Royal Prussian Jagdstaffel 11 Volume I is the first of a detailed series of books on this unit, its operations, its pilots, and the markings of its aircraft. Many books have been written about the history of Jagdstaffel 11 and Manfred von Richthofen, but this series is the most comprehensive and complete work ever written on the subject. The author interviewed 19 members of Jagdgeschwader I in the 1970s, a number of whom knew Manfred von Richthofen personally. Their authentic memories and written accounts are an important part of this book series. The book offers a wealth of previously unpublished material, such as the diary and letters of Pour le Mérite pilots Kurt Wolff and letters from Carl Allmenröder. It contains excerpts of the diary of nurse Käte Oltersdorf, who cared for Manfred von Richthofen after he was wounded, as well as many other contemporary unpublished eye-witness reports. This information is supplemented by unpublished documents from German archives, including interrogation records of the Allied crews forced to land by Jagdstaffel 11, which are supplemented by corresponding Allied documents and reports.
