During the years 1933 to 1939, which Charles Bewley spent as Irish envoy in Berlin, he had the opportunity to observe the popularity Hermann Göring enjoyed, both among the German people and the diplomatic corps, as Prime Minister of Prussia and Commander-in-Chief of the Luftwaffe.
