Friedrich, Wolfgang Die Kursächsische Armee 1730-1732

The period around 1730-1732 is not insignificant for European and Saxon history. Saxony was an important political and military power in Europe during this period. It therefore makes sense to look at the appearance of the Saxon army - especially its uniforms. However, the sources available for this period are relatively thin, unlike those for the Seven Years' War, which began soon afterwards.
The aim of the work presented here is to explore the existing sources in greater depth, to evaluate them critically, to take new findings into account and, from this point of view, to present - as far as possible - an overall picture of the uniform of the Saxon army at this time. The author combines several strands of Saxon uniform studies: the study of 18th-century paintings in Saxon and Polish art galleries and castles, 19th-century reconstructions and the evaluation of the extensive and sometimes idiosyncratically structured source collections of Johannes Eichhorn (1903-1969).
For all those interested in military history and uniform studies as well as Saxon history, the study of this work should deepen or present new and expanded insights in overview and detail.
