It begins during the occupation of the Rhineland by French troops after the First World War. In this first volume, a young German war correspondent experiences the Allied invasion of Sicily in 1943. Assigned to the paratroopers, he is driven through the hell of war in murderous missions. From one who suffered on the front line, the whole futility of war is proven.
