The novel Last Convoy describes the perilous voyage of an Allied convoy of 45 ships en route from Halifax to Britain during the Second World War. The dramatic events focus on the "Regal Gesture", which sails at the end of the convoy and eventually has to stay behind due to engine failure. The ship soon runs into trouble from enemy submarines whose torpedoes take their toll.
