Description
As a result of German colonial and world policy, the overseas activities of the Imperial Navy culminated in the last two decades of the 19th century, with these units playing a key role. Taking the operations of the cruiser squadrons as an example, Heiko Herold analyses the political-military practices used to safeguard and enforce German interests overseas during the phase of high imperialism. Within this framework, he shows the military, political and economic reasons for these deployments as well as their military and political impact.
