Description
Compilation of a series of operational reports by commanding admirals of the British Royal Navy for the Admiralty at home. The admiralty reports presented here cover naval operations from 1940-1944, and give an impression of how British admirals at the front saw their own operations and explained and justified them to their superiors in London.
Described include. a naval engagement with the Italian fleet off Calabria in July 1940, the attack by British torpedo planes against the Italian naval base at Taranto in November 1940, the evacuation of British troops from the island of Crete in May/June 1941, the failed Allied landing at Dieppe in August 1942, or the attack by the fleet during the Allied landing in Normandy in June 1944.
