Description
Germania and Western Europe in 486 AD. The structures of the Roman Empire have not withstood the pressures of migration and internal crises. The emperors, army commanders and governors have been replaced by fierce warlords who engage in a merciless struggle for supremacy.
These are the years in which Marcellus, a young Roman, grows up at the court of the Rhine Frank Sigibert. With his friends, provincials and Franks, he learns the warrior's craft, which his father wants him to secure a place in life. The carefree days of youth end when the warriors of the Alamanni march up to the borders to wrest the lands on the Rhine and Moselle from the Franks. As in Michael Kuhn's first work, a search for clues is attached to the plot. The reader is invited to visit the places of action of the novel and to absorb much worth knowing about the time of the early Middle Ages.
