Description
Some never-before-seen pieces of U.S. Marine Corps equipment and photographs from the period between 1892 and 1937 are on display. This first volume of a two-volume compendium covers field equipment, small arms (pistols, rifles and machine guns) and headgear. The development of the Marines' characteristic, bell-shaped hat is reconstructed in detail. Also listed are countless serial numbers for Krag rifles (1000 in all), M1903 rifles, the M1912 Colt automatic, BARs and even some shotguns. Detailed information on delivered numbers of cartridge belts can be found in the chapter "Field Equipment". Finally, there is a look at the Marine Corps Quartermaster Depot, its production methods and its capacities.
