Planned before the Second World War at the request of Howard Hughes, the Lockheed Constellation is now regarded as one of the best aeroplanes ever built. The Constellation was also the first civilian aircraft capable of crossing the Atlantic without a stopover. In addition to its civilian role, it also had a distinguished military career, where it was used primarily as an AWACS aircraft and to carry out electronic jamming missions. The entire development history of this extraordinary aircraft as well as its civilian and military variants are presented, supported by a wealth of photographic material.
