Experiences and political developments during the Hungarian Revolution of 1848/49 from the perspective of the Hungarian General Georg Klapka. Klapka was an important figure in the Hungarian War of Independence against Habsburg rule. The book focuses on the period from April to October 1849, during which Klapka played a leading role in the defence of Hungary. Klapka describes the military operations, strategic decisions and the battles against the Austrian and Russian troops that finally crushed the revolution. A central event is the defence of the fortress of Komárom, which Klapka successfully held against the superior forces. He also reflects on the political and military mistakes of the Hungarian leadership and analyses the reasons for the failure of the revolution.
