This volume traces the chequered career of Joseph Wheeler, who made it to major general in the Confederate Army during the American Civil War at the age of only 26. In addition to Wheeler's work in the great conflict of 1861 to 1865, it also traces in detail his pre-war training at West Point Military Academy and his post-war career, where he served for a time as a Congressman for Alabama and finally as a soldier again during the Spanish-American War of 1898.
