Located in eastern Virginia, Williamsburg is one of the oldest American settlements. The town temporarily became the focus of the Union campaign on the Virginia Peninsula in May 1862. The volume focuses on the account of the Battle of Williamsburg on 5 May 1862 and the period of occupation by Union troops. The first chapter describes the period when Williamsburg was under Confederate control.
