On 4 October 1866, a young girl rang the bell at flat no. 13 in Alonkin's house in Petersburg: Anna Grigorievna Snitkina, a successful participant in Professor Olchin's stenography courses, went to see the already well-known forty-four-year-old Fyodor Dostoevsky on the recommendation of her teacher, who wanted her to dictate his novel "The Gambler" in the greatest need of time. The book tells of her life as a stenographer, wife and later as the mother of his children. But also as a businesswoman who sold her husband's books at a profit and tried to regulate the family's hopeful financial situation.
