The Battle of Paoli (Pennsylvania) in September 1777 belongs to the context of the American War of Independence. This work is the first comprehensive account of this battle between the British under General Charles Grey and the American Continental forces under Anthony Wayne. It describes the approach of the two armies, the course of the bloody battle, which was lost by the American side, and finally the court martial of Wayne, in which he was found guilty of negligence.
