There are not many books on runes in French. Since the publication of Lucien Musset's 1955 Introduction to Runic Studies, little has been published on this important area of scriptural studies. This work offers an analysis of the history and development of runes, as well as a look at the different areas of research in northern European runic lore. The author looks at current analyses of runic inscriptions and offers his own new interpretations. He outlines the main epigraphic sources of the ancient Fubark runes from the Germanic Iron Age, and situates them in their historical context. Also included are analyses of the "ALU", "LAUKAZ" and "OTA" inscriptions. A better understanding of these inscriptions also helps to understand the mentality of the ancient Germanic peoples.
First published in English in 2016, this current French edition has been updated to include some new discoveries in French runic lore.
