In the second part of this two-volume biography of the German Field Marshal Albert Kesselring, the author analyses not only Kesselring's role as commander in Italy from the Allied landing at Anzio through the retreat from Rome to the fighting along the Gothic Line, but also his complicity in war crimes committed by German troops in the Italian theatre of war, his actions as Commander-in-Chief West and his significance for the post-war arrangements in Italy.
It concludes with the trial of him for his involvement in war crimes on the Italian battlefield and the post-war years. This work is rounded off by more than one hundred contemporary photographs, including unpublished shots.
