An overview of the history of a British "Special Air Service" regiment from its deployment in Malaya in the 1950s to the present day. As well as fighting communist forces in Malaya, it also covers operations in Radfan and Aden, Borneo, Oman, the Falkland Islands, during the 1991 Gulf War, Northern Ireland and in Afghanistan and Iraq. However, the author does not limit himself to a mere account of military operations, but also tries to fathom the political and strategic background behind the various missions.
