This is the final volume of the regimental records of the Royal Welch Fusiliers, covering 325 years of proud history. The book consists of two main parts. The first part deals with the chronicle of recent years and the events that led to the merger. It covers the last missions in Northern Ireland, firefighting, operations in Iraq and Afghanistan, training exercises in Belize, Cyprus, Kenya and Canada, as well as the numerous sporting and ceremonial events of this period. The regular units, reserve units and cadre units are covered, as are the associations, regimental institutions and events. With the consent of the R.H.Q. of the Royal Welsh, the volume covers the period up to 2014, when the title Royal Welch Fusiliers was finally lost. The text is supplemented by numerous photos, maps and diagrams. The second major part consists of a series of appendices containing additional details that were missing from the previous seven volumes, particularly volumes 1 to 4. If all the information available had been included, the volume would have become unwieldy and too expensive. The curators of the regimental museum therefore decided to try something new. In addition to the printed appendices, some appendices will contain a URL that will take the reader to an online appendix. In this way, the creators are combining a traditional volume that will stand alongside the other volumes on the shelf with new technology. This has the added advantage that the online material can be revised and updated at any time as necessary.
