To mark the centenary of Russian military aviation, the ?Russian Knights? Foundation has published an illustrated volume examining the uniforms worn by members of the Russian Air Force and aviation from the time of Emperor Alexander III to the present day. The greatest value of this material lies in the original documents, which make it possible to trace, on a scholarly basis, all the circumstances surrounding the introduction, existence and abolition of the uniforms and specialised clothing worn by Russian airmen during the period described. Most of the archival documents and original drawings presented in the book were discovered by the authors and introduced into academic research for the first time. The drawings and photographic documents are supplemented as illustrations by images of original objects from museum and private collections, as well as by colour diagrams and models ? reconstructions created using computer graphics. The first volume of this edition chronologically traces all changes to the uniforms, insignia and flags of the military air force from 1890 to 1943.
