A reprint of one of the few eyewitness accounts by soldiers of German descent who fought on the Union side. Lieutenant Otto Heusinger, from Braunschweig, served for four and a half years in German Union regiments. He began in General Blenker's division and took part in almost all the major battles of the Civil War.
