The last part of the complete three-volume work on the armament and organisation of the Roman army, which covers the period from the third century AD to the fall of the Western Roman Empire. In its first three chapters, the volume describes the organisational changes within the Roman army in the 3rd century AD, at the time of Emperor Diocletian and in the late Roman period, i.e. in the time between Emperor Constantine the Great and the end of Western Rome. The following sections are then devoted in detail to the service within the Roman army in the period covered, the complete equipment, armament (including war machines) and clothing as well as the battle tactics. Several bw-photos, a large number of bw-drawings of weapons and equipment, diagrams of troop formations and 16 colour plates (3 with colour photos of miniature figures, 13 with illustrations of the various shields) form the rich illustration.
