Based on German and Soviet sources, the third part of the "Black Cross, Red Star" series describes the air operations on the Eastern Front in 1942, including the German summer offensive of 1942, the air battles over the Caucasus, the attack on the Allied convoy PQ-17, the operations in the area of Army Groups Centre and North and the actions of the German and Soviet air forces during the struggle for Stalingrad.
The author has studied the air war on the Eastern Front for several decades. This work is based on primary sources from both sides and interviews conducted by the author with a large number of veterans from both sides.

Over 300 photos, many of them from private photo albums of veteran pilots, have never been published before.
