Life without electronic devices is almost unimaginable for many people today. Modern semiconductor technology can be found in almost all areas of daily life - from the digital wristwatch to motor controls, smartphones, digital cameras and entertainment devices. But electronic components are also replacing or supplementing analogue components more and more in observation and measurement technology as well as in target optics. When modern equipment combines optical components and semiconductor technology, it is called optronics. This is where this "Sights Special" comes in. After a brief introduction to the history and development, it provides an initial overview of the equipment that is becoming increasingly important for hunters, sport shooters and security forces.
Of course, the legal aspects applicable in Germany are not neglected. After a glossary explains important technical terms, the special issue devotes a chapter to each of the following topics: night vision devices, thermal imaging devices, night sights, reflex sights, laser sights and telescopic sights, in which selected models are presented in addition to technical basics and areas of application. This is followed by a test report comparing the potential of common laser rangefinders, before another chapter deals with "intelligent" targeting and observation optics. There is also up-to-date information on cameras for weapons and target optics. The topic of training and target simulators for civilian and government users is also covered, as is an overview of important accessories for mounting and using optronic devices. As usual, the book concludes with an extensive appendix containing addresses and further information.
