Fighter tanks had not existed until the first years of the war, and it was only realised that they were lacking when the anti-tank units could no longer keep up with the rapidly advancing tanks. Therefore, the anti-tank guns had to be motorised. The first developments like the "Marder" were still rather provisional, later came low, flat types without turret like the Pz.Kpfw. IV L/70, the "Guderian duck". The authors document every step in the development of these fighter tanks and present their inner workings with many expressive photos.
