The Swedish armoured forces were greatly expanded during the war, growing from a few dozen light tanks to almost 800 armoured vehicles by the end of the Second World War. Between the wars, the Swedish army followed the pattern of countries with limited financial resources for building, modernising and operating their armed forces. However, a stable military industry and, initially, foreign design and development capabilities, particularly from Germany, helped the Swedish army to supply itself with armoured vehicles designed and manufactured in its own country.
