Discover all the variants of the famous American M4 Sherman tank from 1941 onward in this book, which traces the complete history of this military vehicle using photographs and archival documents, technical descriptions, and accounts from former soldiers, collectors, and enthusiasts. Developed by the Americans in 1941 for use in World War II, the M4 Sherman remained in service until the 1970s. With nearly 50,000 units produced, it far outnumbered the German Tiger and Panther tanks. The M4 Sherman accompanied the US Army and Marine Corps in their military operations during World War II, but also served the British Army and the armed forces of the Commonwealth, the USSR and Free France, the Polish Army in Exile, Brazil, and China. The Sherman remained in service even after the war, including in the 1965 Indo-Pakistani War, with the Israeli armed forces in the 1967 Six-Day War, and in the 1973 Yom Kippur War. Pat Ware describes the development of the tank in detail, including its various variants, paying particular attention to the combat experiences of the crews.
