Gaujac, Paul Qui a libéré la Provence?

This book is the fruit of an old Provençal passion for this unjustly unknown landing and the discovery, several years ago, of a book entitled "Août 1944, le Général de Lattre libère la Provence" (August 1944, General de Lattre liberates Provence). While Provence owes a great deal to Jean de Lattre for the mastery with which he circumvented his American leaders at the time, Lucian Truscott and Alexander Patch, and led his troops to a resounding victory, it seemed to Colonel Gaujac that the Americans played a large part in the Liberation of this province. It was from this observation that the project for this book arose. For the French, this campaign was marked by very strong opposition between Generals de Lattre and de Larminat, which led to the latter's departure. This book pays tribute to the American, British and French soldiers and sailors who, from 15 August to 1 September 1944, risked and sometimes gave their lives so that the people of Provence could finally be free. It is above all a tribute to the Americans of the VI Corps from the southern United States and to all those belonging to the French troops rearmed and trained in North Africa, who made up the bulk of the Liberation Army from 1943 onwards. The author does not draw any definitive conclusions, preferring to leave it up to the reader to do so once he or she has finished reading and is in possession of the elements reported.

The texts presented come mainly from the work carried out in recent years by Colonel Gaujac who, in the twilight of his life, has produced a serious work that is a pleasure to read - the extensive iconography plays a major role. A work that will satisfy a well-informed "general public".
