Each volume contains more than 750 photos and detailed captions illustrating all aspects of these historic flights. The series begins with this volume, which contains more than 500 photos of the fatal Apollo 1 tragedy and covers the next eleven missions, including the first six moon landings. From Apollo 7 to Apollo 17, each volume covers the arrival and assembly of the rocket and spacecraft, the selection and training of the crew, the rollout to the launch pad, pre-flight activities, the countdown, launch, the flight itself, the splashdown, and the subsequent appearances of the crew and related activities. 11 October 1968 and the launch of Apollo 7 marked NASA's first manned space flight after the Apollo 1 disaster in January 1967. The success of Apollo 7 helped to redefine the course of the Apollo programme and, with it, the history of space travel.
