Boats, traditional costumes and pickles - that's what most people associate with the Spreewald. Railway enthusiasts, on the other hand, associate the region in southern Brandenburg with the approximately 85-kilometre-long narrow-gauge network between Lübben, Goyatz, Lieberose and Cottbus. Although no trains have run here since 1970, the Spreewaldbahn is one of the best-known narrow-gauge railways in Germany. No wonder, because the small engines and the short trains of the "Spreewald-Guste" embodied the romance of the narrow-gauge railway like hardly any other line. The new edition of this classic by Erich Preuß has been enriched with additional historical pictorial material.
