The queen of steam locomotives.
We are celebrating a particularly beautiful, elegant and technically mature steam locomotive, that brilliant masterpiece of Bavarian locomotive engineering from the house of J. A. Maffei with the magical class symbol S 3/6. It was the pride of all railwaymen, appreciated by the staff and popular with railway enthusiasts. In 1908, it was put into service by the Kgl. State Railways, it was built well into the Reichsbahn era. It was not until 1930, after 159 units, that its construction period ended with the commissioning of locomotive 18 548. 1908-2008, one hundred years of the S 3/6! This birthday book is a tribute to an extremely popular express locomotive that captivated generations of railway enthusiasts. In addition to an outline of its history of service far beyond Bavaria, it also contains numerous previously unpublished photographs.
