Nothing has changed the relationship to space and time as quickly as the railway. The opening of the Südbahn line from Vienna to Trieste on 27 July 1857 was considered a sensation, because the connection across the Alps to the Adriatic in only 13 hours by train was a great pioneering achievement and a technical masterpiece at the time.
The director of the Winter!Sport!Museum! Hannes Nothnagl and his colleague Barbara Habermann document not only the impressive railway technology, but above all the working and everyday life on the southern railway from 1857 to the present day. On the occasion of the exhibition celebrating the 150th anniversary of the Südbahn, they have selected around 200 photographs from the Winter!Sport!Museum!, the Heimatmuseum Mürzzuschlag and from private albums.
