The Ostkreuz station developed into one of the capital's most important railway junctions within 175 years. The "Rostkreuz" gained cult status after 1989 because of its morbid charm. The reconstruction took twelve years, but its fascination remained. Today, 1512 long-distance, regional and suburban trains pass through the station every day, as well as around 123,000 passengers embarking, disembarking and transferring, ensuring the station a top position in Germany. With great accuracy, Bernd Kuhlmann describes the elaborate conversion to a modern transport hub, which took place during ongoing traffic - a challenge for passengers and construction workers alike.
