1952 to 1965.
The Leipzig Tramway is one of the oldest and largest tramway companies in Germany. The first horse-drawn tram ran as early as 1872, and from 1896 the "electric" tram ran through the burgeoning city. Since then, the route network has been repeatedly adapted to the city's development. After the Second World War, Leipzig's public transport company became the flagship of the GDR's local transport system.
The "Historische Nahverkehrsmittel Leipzig" e. V. (Leipzig Historical Local Transport Association) has lovingly created an image of Leipzig's tram history in the 1950s and 1960s by adding entertaining stories to over 200 previously unpublished photographs from the estate of Wolfgang Schreiner and other tram enthusiasts. In addition to everyday snapshots, the illustrated book also shows special operations at the Leipzig Trade Fair, market hall traffic and the trolleybuses that have long since disappeared. The reader experiences the unbroken fascination of vehicle technology. On journeys along long-forgotten routes, not only tram enthusiasts will get their money's worth.
