On 24 November 1858, Emperor Franz Joseph I opened Wörgl railway station and at the same time the Innsbruck-Wörgl-Kufstein railway line. By the end of the monarchy, an extensive railway network had been built that reached into many valleys. The railway was celebrated as the "gateway to the world". This illustrated book documents the eventful history of the Tyrolean railways from the "k.k. Nordtyroler Bahn" to the present day with 150 previously unpublished fascinating photographs. Günter Denoth is the founder of the Tyrol Transport Archive, has already written numerous publications on Tyrolean railways and helped to organise the anniversary event "150 Years of Railways in Tyrol" in 2008 at Wörgl main station.
