Historical novel. After years of stand-in service, Captain Gabriel Maines, as competent as he is unimpressive, finally gets his own ship. But the "Chloe", by far the ugliest frigate in the Navy, has just had a mutiny. The admiralty hopes that this nuisance will be forgotten on a lengthy mission, and so Maines sets off on a great voyage with a ragtag crew and officers unknown to him. As expected, the "Chloe" experiences battle and storm en route to India, Australia and around Hoorn, but Maines discovers that someone seems to have very different plans for him and his ship...
