Description
Since the late 1950s, the Historical Tactical Conference has been the opportunity for young and old to talk and argue about tradition and modernity, about what needs to be preserved and what needs to be changed. From humble beginnings, a major event grew. Under the motto "from the fleet for the fleet", it was initially conceived as a forum for an exchange of ideas only for officers of the fleet.
Later it opened up to the entire navy, and in the meantime naval officers from all branches of the Bundeswehr at home and abroad meet on the traditional date at the beginning of January. Since the first conference, far more than 400 speakers have presented their topics, some with great success. This volume contains the contributions of eight young officers who spoke at the 60th Historical Tactical Conference as well as a paper by Dr. Peter Tauber, who, as Parliamentary State Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Defence, supplemented and confirmed the contents of his fellow speakers as a representative of the political leadership, so to speak. Vice Admiral Brinkmann, Deputy Chief of Naval Operations and organiser, outlined the theme of this anniversary event: "We do not want to search in the infinite historical depths and abysses of German navies, but in our recent past. What from our recent history is relevant today for our own responsibility in the swell of time? From different perspectives and along a historical arc, our speakers will illuminate facets of our identity and self-image. The thematic canon ranges from the question of the legacy we inherited from our predecessor navies to the public's perception of the navy today".
