Description
In historical documents Gustav Freiherr von Senden-Bibran (1847-1909) is usually mentioned only in passing. But as the first head of the newly founded naval cabinet and later adjutant general to Kaiser Wilhelm II, he must have had a decisive influence on the Kaiser, especially as the navy was of great interest to him. Thanks to its essential importance in personnel matters, the naval cabinet had a lasting influence on the development of the imperial navy. As head of the cabinet, von Senden-Bibran lectured the Emperor on matters relevant to the navy and mediated in disagreements between the highest naval authorities. This is the first detailed account of von Senden-Bibran's career from wing adjutant to Chief of Naval Cabinet, his relationship with other leading politicians and military officers of his time, and his influence on Kaiser Wilhelm II.
