Scott Whites journey began in Edinburgh, Scotland, where, at the age of 25, he entered the ruthless world of private security. Trained by former special forces instructors, he mastered the intricacies of close protectionfrom weapons handling and specialized driving techniques to the ability to keep a cool head amidst chaos. For six years, he operated across Europe and the UK, working in the shadows of high-risk missions and protecting VIPs in environments where hesitation could prove fatal. Yet the pivotal turning point came at 31, when Scott was deployed as a private security contractor to Iraq and Afghanistantwo of the worlds most dangerous locations at the height of the conflicts there. For seven long years, he navigated bombed-out cities and scorched desert roads; he escorted high-profile principals under fire, led convoys through "kill zones," and stared death in the face more times than he could count. Days and nights blurred into a relentless succession of bombings, ambushes, firefights, and a constant, oppressive fear. And yet, amidst this madness, something wonderful emerged: camaraderie. It was a deep, unspoken bond between men who would have walked into the jaws of death for one another without a second thought. While some of these men became brothers for life, others never returned home; far too many came back physically intact but spiritually shattered. Some took their own lives. Others spiraled into the slow suicide of addictionand Scotts path was no different. Flashbacks. Guilt. A crushing silence that no one back home could penetrate. He lost his marriage, his family, and his home. And in all that darkness, he lost himself. Yet somewhere, a shift began to take place. Slowly and in great pain, he began to piece himself back together. This is the personal story of a battle for survivalboth in brutal war zones and in grappling with the PTSD that followed. It is about what war takes from a person, and about the quiet, defiant decision to carry on regardless.
