This book presents Vladimir Douchkine and his lifetime work of painting for the first time to a wider range of collectors. This book depicts painted flats from all the different periods of Douchkines work, i.e. from 1930 to 1989.
Apart from some biographical data this book purports to be a pictorial of more than 1400 painted flats first. Most flats represented are portraits or so called "Sonderfiguren" in German. Many of the beautiful Gottstein sets are included in this book.
The painting of 30mm tall flat "tin" figurines is not a classic art form. The drawing and engraving of the small flats is leaving no space for developing the kind of creativity, which is regarded being art. Douchkine´s main achievement was to go beyond these constraints and to create something new merely through his painting. On the other hand, other well-known painters of flats such as Glaser and Kemnow were always more constraint by the given framework.
